The Publishers Association Industry Insights dashboard helps members access, compare and use UK publishing industry statistics. The dashboard presents the data that was once issued in our annual Publishing Yearbook.
Our work is supported by a research programme which focuses on highlighting the contribution of the UK publishing industry.
We work with different organisations to deliver research reports on strategic areas of interest for the membership.
Recently, this has included working with economic consultancies, political think tanks and charity partners.
We submit responses to government consultations and select committee inquiries and prepare briefing documents on key issues for our members.
We also collate key industry statistics, including our Publishing Yearbook, and carry out an annual industry workforce survey.

The Publishers Association’s Annual Report 2023 contains a snapshot of our work in 2023. Over the last year, we have supported members to navigate the rapid developments of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and continue to engage with government on behalf of the publishing sector.
A shortened version of the Publishers Association annual industry statistics, Publishing in 2023 features key numbers around sales revenue, formats and key export markets. Figures are available for the whole industry, as well as the consumer, education and academic sectors.
The UK’s publishing industry is truly world leading. Publishing contributes an extraordinary £11 billion overall to the economy and the industry exports more books than any other country globally, which is a phenomenal cultural achievement for the UK.
An updated industry statement on professional values and behaviours has been launched by the Publishers Association, Society of Authors, Booksellers Association and Association of Authors’ Agents. Since the document originally launched five years ago, a number of new organisations have also endorsed the statement, including; Association of Illustrators, Translators Association, Publishing Scotland, Independent Publishers Guild (IPG), Writers Guild of Great Britain.
The Publishers Association is delighted to present the Summer Reading List for Parliamentarians 2023. This annual list celebrates the incredible capacity of books to educate, inspire and entertain. All of the titles have been nominated by MPs and Peers as their recommended read for the Summer Recess.
